Chavin de Huantar

Chavín de Huantar is an arqueological site located in "Chavín de Huantar" district at 3.177 msnm. Acording to various arqueologists this site was the administrative and religious centre of the Chavin Culture, it was constructed and use between 1500 and 300 b.c.
In this site, the famous "Lazón monolitico" is exhibited in one of the galeries (rooms) and in the walls of the principal temple you can aprecciate the "Cabezas clavas".










The "Cabezas clavas" were the mitological guardians of de temple, these were rocks have carved faces in them. These guardians were placed in the walls of sacred or important places to atemorize intruders.
