Cañon de Pato

Cañon del pato is located in Huara- Peru. This place is formed by the river "Santa" separating "La cordillera Blanca" from "La cordillera Negra".
Cañon del Pato its the extension of “Callejón de Huaylas”, and it extends about 40 km from the district of Mato until Chuquicara. The elevation of “Cañon del Pato” is 1.800m above sea level.

The throat of the Cañon lengths 12 m and it’s walls rise vertically at more tan 60 m to continue ascending untill 2, 000 m.

Cañon del Pato is also source of hidroelectric power because, for the water to get through it has to be compressed into a space of 500 m to the fall in order to reach the pacific ocean. The force of the water falling, makes the turbines (that are placed underneath the waterfall) move, and this generates energy. This "waterfall" takes part as a source of hidroelectric power in Cañon del Pato Central, in Huallanca.
